We had to wait a long time for it, but older Sony Android TVs will also get the upgrade to Android 9 this year.

Sony has announced that Android 9 will be rolled out to older televisions in Europe. The older models that already run on Android and are made from mid-2016 to 2019 will update to Android 9 received soon.

The company hasn’t specifically shared when the update will be available, but Sony did promise that Android 9 will still be available this year. Specifically, it concerns the generation D, E, F and G. Furthermore, the update only requires that it be a 49-inch model.

The new Android version brings the Media Player app. It contains all albums, videos and music. Whoever owns an AF9, ZF9, AG9, XG85 or ZG9 would earlier this year should have already been upgraded to the 9 Pie.

It is striking that Sony has waited a long time. Android 9 was already launched in 2018 and is only now being rolled out. Furthermore, TVs older than mid-2016 will not get the update because the hardware is not provided for it. This mainly concerns an outdated chipset that Android 9 cannot run.
