Sony Corporation has acquired a minority stake in Epic Games. The Japanese company has made a strategic investment of $ 250 million in the maker of Fortnite, among others.
The $ 250 million investment should broaden the existing partnership between Sony and Epic Games, both companies report in a press release. The companies are not very specific about the areas in which they will collaborate, but judging by the explanatory notes, it is more than games.
According to Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, the investment opens the way for collaboration on ‘the rapidly changing digital entertainment landscape’. Tim Sweeney of Epic talks about a ‘shared vision of real-time social 3d experiences’ where gaming, film and music should come together.
Thus, the Epic Games founder seems to be aiming at integrating music and movies into games. For example, the company has already organized concerts by Diplo in Fortnite and has already shown trailers and films by director Christopher Nolan in the game.
