Sony on PlayStation Blog introduces the new features that are coming to the PlayStation 5 console along with the beta version of the new firmware. It particularly appeals to sound, social features, accessibility features and interface improvements. Participants of the beta program in selected countries can already try them. Everyone else will get a new update later this year.
You can find the complete list of news at PS Blog, but I dare to choose at least some of them. For example, it is now possible to use a second gamepad at the same time as the first to control the console as if you were using one. It can be useful for players with limited hand or finger movement. You can, for example, help a less experienced player or a child with a difficult section without taking the controller out of their hands. Similarly, it is possible to turn on haptics in the system user interface for better orientation of visually impaired people.
The new update also brings support for Dolby Atmos and its devices. You can respond to messages in the chat more quickly with the help of easily accessible smileys and other emojis. You can now also search for games in your library using text search. And for some, perhaps the most interesting news relates to SSDs. The PS5 can now hold even larger capacity discs. You can use an M.2 SSD up to 8 TB in size, while until now the ceiling is 4 TB.
