Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan Announces Retirement in 2024

Just earlier, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) officially announced that current president and CEO Jim Ryan will retire in 2024.

Jim Ryan via SIE official blog issued a statementstated that he will retire from SIE after 30 years of service, and Sony’s current president, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer Totoki Hiroki will temporarily take charge of PlayStation.

Regarding the opportunity to lead SIE, Jim Ryan expressed humility and pride in the achievements of PlayStation 5 so far. He was also optimistic about the future development of SIE and expressed gratitude for everything from the bottom of his heart.

In order to complete the power transfer, Sony’s current president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer Totoki Hiroki will serve as chairman of SIE starting from October 2023, and will work closely with Sony president and chief operating officer (former president) Kenichiro Yoshida. Together we will determine the next step for PlayStation and the next CEO of SIE.

Kenichiro Yoshida said in a statementrespect Jim Ryan’s choice to retire, consider the importance of the game and online services business, and will carefully decide Jim Ryan’s successor.

Jim Ryan joined SIEE Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (then known as Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) in 1994. Since then, he has served as President of SIEE Europe, and since 2018 he has served as SIEE Vice President and Global Head of Sales and Marketing. In 2019, he was promoted to President of SIE.
