In an earlier earnings report, Sony revealed that the PlayStation 5 will be available this yearsecond fiscal quarterThe sales volume was 3.3 million units. This figure is basically the same as in the same period last year and also brings PS5 cumulative sales to 25 million units so far. It should be noted, however, that Sony’s PS5 sales forecast for fiscal year 2022 (ending March 31 next year) is 18 million units. Now in half a fiscal year, they have 5.7 million units. That’s only 100,000 more than a year ago and it’s still a bit difficult to hit the target in the rest of the fiscal year.
But even so, the official did not revise the expected number of PS5 sales for the full year and also estimated that shipments in the next fiscal year will reach 23 million units. It can be seen that confidence in the speed of production and market demand has been restored, but there is still no sign that the current situation can really be as expected. In software sales, the game has sold 62.5 million copies, down from 76.4 million a year ago. The number of digital downloads accounted for around 63%, a slight increase, and the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers experienced a second consecutive quarter of decline.
Overall, Sony’s gaming division’s total revenue in the fiscal second quarter was $ 4.92 billion, up 12% the following year. Profits, however, dropped 49% the following year due to the Bungie acquisition and increased developer spending.
