Sony has introduced Sophy’s revolutionary artificial intelligence

The expected racing game Gran Turismo 7 is slowly approaching, after all, we recently saw a lot of new shots within State of Play. On Wednesday, however, Sony came up with another very interesting news, concerning the GT series. The relatively new Sony AI division, founded in April 2020, has announced its first major project. It is called Sophy and is a revolutionary artificial intelligence that is to bother the best players in Gran Turisma.

The new AI team worked closely with developers from Polyphony Digital. Sophy uses machine learning and is trained using cloud infrastructure from Sony. According to Sony AI, the development was very demanding, because they had to deal with all aspects of racing. The rider should be able to find the ideal track for overtaking or points where to brake and where to add gas. He must be aggressive enough to stand a chance against others, but not too much so as not to cause an unnecessary collision. Sony believes Sophy is the artificial intelligence that can do all this. In addition, the company wants to continue in this development branch and suggests that in the future we will see other uses of such artificial intelligence than just games.

However, if you are looking forward to racing against Sophy in Gran Turismus 7, you will still have to wait. At the official blog Sony states that Sony is currently exploring ways to add AI to future GT parts. But Sophy will probably get seven as well, the company revealed in a video presentation that “Wants to deliver Gran Turismo Sophy to all players through a future update for Gran Turismo 7”. But we don’t know yet when it will be.
