Today we learned that Sony Interactive Entertainment concluded new partnership. The Japanese giant begins cooperation with the South Korean publisher and game producer, NCsoft. According to the presidents of both companies, this is a strategic move that will be used in “various business areas.”
It seems that In this way, Sony is preparing the ground to try its hand at the mobile market. The press release details the technological potential of NCsoft in the mobile gaming sector. According to Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony:
The partnership with NCsoft supports our strategy to move beyond consoles and expand PlayStation’s reach to a wider audience. Like SIE, NCsoft shares a similar vision of creating high-quality, impactful entertainment experiences for gamers around the world, and we are excited to collaborate to further push the boundaries of gaming.
NCsoft’s portfolio includes a number of productions intended for mobile devices (including Lineage W and Aion: Legions of War). However, it is not impossible that as part of the partnership with Sony, new MMO games will be released for PlayStation consoles, of which the Korean giant is best known – let’s mention the popular Aion or the Guild Wars and Lineage series. Currently, the company works, among others, over Throne and Liberty.
It is worth mentioning that information that Sony is in talks with NCsoft appeared in July this year. Then the MTN Korea website reported that the Japanese were seeking cooperation with several other Korean companies: Pearl Abyss (Black Desert Online), Com2uS (Skylanders: Ring of Heroes) and Neowiz (Lies of P). Each of these publishers has experience in the mobile games market, which is another indication that Sony is preparing something in this regard. We may soon see ports of PlayStation “exclusives” or their spin-offs for Android and iOS devices.
