In the gaming world, patents often reflect potential ideas that companies are considering, but they don’t always get a positive response from players and are eventually abandoned. But sometimes patents also bring to light some ideas that are really interesting – for example, a new patent filed by Sony.
What is known
This patent describes a real-time in-game help method that will allow players to seek advice from “experts” if they get stuck in the game. According to the patent description, if the player needs help, this method will connect them to “experts” to help them move forward. And if experts are not available, videos from the game will be shown.
The main idea is to provide better integration of finding tutorials and explanations during the game, without having to leave the game to find them. Sony has already implemented similar ideas, such as the Game Help mechanic for the PlayStation 5, so it would be interesting to see a more polished version of this feature.
Of course, as always with patents, this does not mean that Sony will necessarily implement these new features in the future – it could file a patent “just in case” to legally protect this idea in the future.
