Sony did not believe in the success of the PS5 Digital Edition, which is confirmed by the small number of pieces compared to the regular edition

On Thursday, they started unexpectedly pre-orders for PlayStation 5. Sony surprised with a quick decision on this matter, which was probably related to some extent recent bot allegationswhich some customers use to cheat the company’s systems and order several copies of a given product at once. The corporation probably wanted to avoid such unpleasant situations.

As we well know, Sony has prepared two devices for the upcoming generation of consoles. One of them is the standard, more expensive edition equipped with a Blu-Ray drive, and the other, cheaper version, does not receive a disc reader. Since the disclosure of both devices, many people have stated on forums and gaming portals that they do not intend to be interested in the Digital Edition at all. Apparently, the company itself noticed it, because it prepared as many as six times less versions without a disc reader compared to the standard edition.

As the Video Games Chronicle editors found out, some retailers in Europe and North America (for example Best Buy and GameStop) received 19,000 regular PS5 and only 3,000 Digital Edition. Japanese AV Watch asked PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan about the situation, but he declined to comment.

It looks as if Sony itself guessed that it makes no sense to spend too much money on producing a version without a Blu-Ray drive, because its interest is almost marginal. The situations in Polish stores are also a great example. In Media Markt and Media Expert, in the first place, it was impossible to place pre-release orders for the standard edition. Only after a dozen or so hours only pre-orders also on the PS5 Digital Edition. Considering that there were about six times less devices from this less popular version, in fact, PS5 without a disc reader does not enjoy much popularity.
