Sony Develops 1/1.1 Inch Smartphone Camera Sensor, Sony IMX 800

Sony is reportedly going to release a new 50MP camera sensor for smartphone devices. Where this sensor will be a special smartphone camera sensor, which has the largest size in the industry today, which is 1/1.1 inches.

The news was leaked by the famous Weibo leakster, namely Digital Chat Station. He also mentioned that Sony’s latest sensor will have the name Sony IMX 800.

This camera sensor is likely to be released for the first time on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra smartphone. Xiaomi 12 Ultra itself is reportedly going to be launched in the middle of this year.

Previously on the Xiaomi 11 Ultra, the camera used a 1/1.12-inch sensor size, namely the Samsung GN2. The size is indeed not so far from that which will be launched by Sony.

Sony itself has previously launched a 1-inch camera sensor in the Sony Xperia Pro-I and Sharp Aquos R6 smartphone devices. However, the sensor is actually a sensor designed for pocket cameras.
