Sony It’s been called developing a handheld console, but it looks like this console isn’t like that PlayStation Vita which can “stand alone”.
This rumor arose from Tom Henderson’s report from Insider Gaming, he said that Sony is developing a portable console that can only be used to play games via the Remote Play feature of the PlayStation 5.
Sony Q Lite, the name of the console, according to Henderson, is a console that can be used to play games via the Remote Play feature, aka streaming. In other words, Q Lite is more worthy of being called an accessory for the PS5.
This console appears in a form like other handheld consoles. The screen measures 8 inches, 1080p and 60fps, and supports touchscreen. There are also adaptive triggers like those on the PS5’s DualSense controller.
According to Henderson, the release will take place before the release of the PS5 Pro, which will reportedly occur in 2024. Oh yes, because of its nature that cannot stand alone, this Q Lite must also always be connected to the internet when playing games.
With such a concept, the Q Lite’s market will probably be quite limited. One of the user scenarios that fits this console might be PS5 gamers who often fight over the TV. With Q Lite, gamers will still be able to play games from the PS5 even though there is no TV to use.
The market is also getting narrower because Remote Play is currently supported by many other devices, be it Android or iOS. There are already many controllers available for the two devices, for example from Backbone and Razer.
The hope is that the price of the Q Lite will be affordable, because it doesn’t require high hardware, considering that it is only used to stream games from the PS5. But so far there have been other similar devices, for example Logitech G Cloud and Razer Edge whose prices are USD 350 and USD 360.
There is also a Steam Deck with prices starting at USD 399, although the Steam Deck is in a different class because it can play games natively, aka you don’t need to stream from other sources, as quoted detikINET from The Verge, Thursday (6/4/2023).
