A new Xperia Compact, the ace under Sony’s command?
Some years ago, when Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Huawei and the like had not yet broken into the smartphone market, Sony phones were one of the big launches every year. Long-awaited proposals for that very own design language and because ultimately we are talking about a history within the consumer electronics market.
During those final years in which it was still relevant in terms of market share, Sony surprised with the gama Xperia Compact. They were telephones that had the best at the hardware level of that year and reduced dimensions compared to what other rivals offered. And it was that compact size that was its main attraction.

Well, now that it is normal to have phones with screen diagonals above 6 inches, there are rumors about a possible launch by Sony that would recover the essence of those Xperia Compact. It would be a terminal that, as published by OnLeaks, would be similar to Apple’s iPhone 12 mini. Maybe a little bigger, but somewhat minimal.
Logically the technical sheet is not known in detail, but it seems it could also have the latest at the processor level. Although we would also aspire to something more restrained to be able to attract the user also due to the price factor. What does seem is that it would incorporate a dual camera on the back and a front one inside a notch. The fingerprint reader would be back on the power button (on one side) and would keep the 3.5 mm Jack connector.
From here on, any other technical data would be mere speculation. Moreover, none of the above can be confirmed until it is presented if it ends up doing so. But if you had to bet on something, it would be very similar to what we tell you. However, you are surely wondering if Sony really needs such a terminal.
Compact phones aren’t what they used to be
When the Xperia Compact enjoyed their maximum appeal, an important factor was that the competition was not able to offer phones with the use of the front that today if practically any brand reaches. That makes a compact phone not as attractive today as it could be years ago.
Now having a 6-inch phone and still being manageable is something feasible in most manufacturers. But in the particular case of Sony itself, the brand already has devices that are very comfortable in the hand.
Both the Sony Xperia 1 and the Xperia 5 that we have been able to analyze or even the most recent Xperia 1 II are terminals that due to their aspect ratio, the screen will be somewhat long, but otherwise they are very compact and are a pleasure to hold in your hand.

So getting something smaller we don’t think makes a lot of sense, unless they’re going to compete hard on price. But still it is not Sony who wants to enter a price battle. So, if we add that Apple seems to have encountered a very different reality after launching its iPhone 12 mini (which is not selling according to forecasts and they have already changed the production level in favor of other models), it is still more interesting if Sony is committed to taking advantage of synergies even more after starting to collaborate with Sony Alpha’s camera department.
