The PlayStation 5 will get its own VR headset. Be there soon development kits for sent, but details on the specifications of the headset are not yet available. It is known that the headset only gets one cable to connect it to the console.
It is a new headset that will be a successor to the PSVR, Sony writes in a blog post. Sony says the new VR headset builds on what the company has learned with the PSVR for the PS4. This would improve the experience in several areas, but Sony does not say anything about which resolution or field-of-view the upcoming headset will get.
The company does say that there will be a separate controller to use with the headset. It contains ‘some important features’ that are also on the DualSense controller of the PS5. According to Sony, the headset also contains only one cable to connect the device, which should ensure an easier set-up. The current PSVR still requires a separate adapter; Sony hints that it is not necessary for the new VR headset.
It is also not yet known when the headset should come out and what it will cost. Sony says there is still a lot to be done and therefore the device will not be released in 2021.
