Sony Changes Name After 60 Years of Establishment

Japanese company Sony decides to change the big name that has taken him for 60 years in the technology industry.

Quoted from Gizchina, In the annual meeting of shareholders on Friday (3/7), the shareholders approved the submission of the change of company name from Sony to ‘Sony Group’.

This name change will be effective from April 2021. This decision is expected to lead Sony to a wider identity. During this time, the development of electronics has become Sony’s main business. With the name change to Sony Group, it means that there will be expansion in other services and businesses.

Sony is a multinational company founded in 1946 by Jing Shenda and Shoda Morita. Jing Shenda has a background in technology research and development, as well as an expert in public relations and marketing.

His expertise is ushering in Sony becoming a large company to have its headquarters currently located in Sony City, Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo.

This decision will be recorded in Sony’s history, as the first time changing the company’s name after 60 years of work.

“We decided to change the name to Sony Group because we wanted to create full diversity in the business portfolio to promote business development and evolution,” said Sony CEO Yoshida Kenichiro.

This seems to be in accordance with the current pandemic conditions. Some analysts said that a pandemic situation would be beneficial with a business model Sony which range from games, music, and other entertainment businesses that can meet the needs of consumers who stay at home. This strategy is considered to offset losses in sales of electronic products.
