Sony CEO: subscription service for new games makes no financial sense – Gaming – News

Yes, from a business point of view it is of course not that strange what he says and I understand the choice, whether it is a wise choice remains to be seen.

The problem that Sony is now facing is that games will cost € 80 for the PS5. That means that the price of the PS5 is worth about the same as 6 games. With prices of € 80 per game, people can go much better for the € 500 version, because compared to digital content from the PSStore, the prices on disc will drop and they will eventually end up in a budget bin.

I have never been a fan of digital games on consoles and if Sony continues this way, many people will stay away from the digital variety. You cannot resell your games or you cannot purchase a second hand game digitally. Where people pretend to stand for innovation, Sony still adheres to the same rules that applied when we had the NES from Nintendo.

I myself was doubting to get a console, but with prices of € 80 each, I thank you for it. With all those stripped-down games and in-game nonsense like season passes etc. I will never get a game for € 80, -. Developers and publishers earn billions from in-game content that costs nothing to create. And the most ridiculous thing is the total lack of innovation and renewal. EA, Ubisoft and other major developers keep coming up with the same content and will soon dare to charge € 80 for it. I don’t understand at all that there are still people who pay as much money for generic games as EA’s sports games.

Edit: Paying to play online multiplayer games is the saddest of all as far as I’m concerned. What time are we living in today
