Sony has bought Returnaldeveloper Housemarque – but another major acquisition for the company has also been leaked.
In a PlayStation blog posts announced the head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, that Sony has acquired Housemarque and added the developer to the PlayStation Studios family of first-party developers.
Housemarque released the PS5-exclusive Returnal earlier this year which met with critical acclaim and has previously worked with Sony on a plethora of releases such as Super Stardust HD. The acquisition means that we will probably see future Housemarque games exclusive to PlayStation, although this was not confirmed in the announcement.

But it’s not just Housemarque that Sony seems to have added to its PlayStation Studios family. PlayStation Japan seems to have accidentally leaked another major acquisition for the company, namely Demons Soulsdeveloper, Bluepoint Games.
On Twitter, PlayStation Japan happened to upload the wrong image with its announcement of the Housemarque acquisition and instead uploaded an image announcing the acquisition of Bluepoint. The post has since been deleted, but not before it was discovered by Twitter user Nibel who took a screenshot of it.
There have been rumors that Sony has been planning to acquire Bluepoint for some time, but Sony has not yet officially confirmed the acquisition. The tweet suggests that these rumors are true and we will probably receive confirmation of the acquisition in the near future – especially now that it has been leaked.

Sony’s acquisition of Bluepoint Games makes sense given that the studio, like Housemarque, has a history of working on exclusive PlayStation titles, with an emphasis on remasters and remakes such as Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Gravity Rush Remastered. Recently, Bluepoint Games also helped develop the remake of Demon’s Souls.
Housemarque and Bluepoint join a bunch of other PlayStation studios like Guerrilla Games, Insomniac Games and Media Molecule.
Given that Microsoft has also acquired studios such as Bethesda, it looks like Sony is also trying to strengthen its already impressive list of first-party developers.
