Sony Interactive Entertainment now announces that it will buy Destiny developer Bungie for $ 3.6 billion, reports Gamesindustry.biz.
“This is an important step in our strategy to expand the reach of Playstation to a much wider audience,” Playstation CEO Jim Ryan said in a press release.
Bungie will act as an independent subsidiary of Sony. The game developer is currently working on new content for Destiny 2 as well as a completely new brand.
Bungie was once also the creator and developer of the Halo series, but today the brand is owned by Microsoft. In 2010, Bungie signed a ten-year contract with Activision Blizzard, which has now expired. Microsoft recently announced that they intend buy Activision Blizzard for $ 68.7 billion.
