The sons of National Basketball Association (NBA) legends and Hall of Famers Shaquille O’Neal and Scottie Pippen have successfully debuted in this year’s NBA Summer League tournament, helping the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat 100-66.
Sharif, the 22-year-old son of legendary center Shaquille O’Neal, spent 15 minutes and 45 seconds on the court in his first game with the Lakers, during which he scored six points, making two of three two-point shots and both free throws. Sharif had six rebounds and one assist.
This season, Sharif represented LSU of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), where he averaged 2.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in 14 games. Meanwhile, his father, the legendary Shaquille O’Neal, played for the Lakers from 1996 to 2004, winning three NBA championships.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Scottie Pippen Jr., the son of Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen, had 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and one block in his Lakers debut. The player spent this season with Vanderbilt in the NCAA tournament, averaging 20.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Pippen’s father is a six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls organization.
Sharif O’Neal and Scottie Pippen Jr. were not selected in the 2022 draft, but the Lakers signed a two-way contract with them. The NBA Summer League will take place in Las Vegas from July 7 to 17.
