Sonos Unveils First Wireless Headphones: Introducing Sonos Ace

Sonos, the well-known audio technology company, is set to enter the wireless headphones market with their highly-anticipated debut product, the Sonos Ace headphones. With CEO Patrick Spence expressing confidence that the wireless headphones will be a significant revenue driver for the company, Sonos eagerly aims to capitalize on this new category in the audio industry as demand for their speakers declines. While the product is slated to ship next month, we now have a glimpse of the Sonos Ace’s hardware design, as well as confirmation of its name.

Sneak Peek: Sonos Ace Headphones

Authorized Sonos parts dealer, Schuurman, leaked images of the Sonos Ace headphones prematurely. The visual reveals various buttons on both ear cups, a mysterious toggle switch, and a premium build that matches the expected price tag of approximately $450. Schuurman’s website displays a price of €403.58, which translates to just over $430 USD, aligning perfectly with earlier price predictions.

The headphones will come with both a headphone cable and USB-C cable. But what’s that tiny little black thing under the case? Hmmm…

Confirming the Sonos Ace: The Evidence

On various online sources, including the Sonos Subreddit, the Ace name has been discovered, providing further credibility to the leaked images. Sonos’ own website hints at the Ace headphones with a search bar message urging users to pre-order the still-unannounced product. A quick search for “sonosace.com” leads users directly to Sonos’ homepage, further substantiating the impending release. Additionally, Bloomberg has reported that the operational codename for the headphones is “Duke.” With mounting evidence, there’s little reason to doubt the authenticity of these leaked images.

Looks like the ear cushions will be replaceable, which is always nice.

Paving the Way for Sonic Excellence

The Sonos Ace headphones are expected to seamlessly integrate with Sonos’ whole-home audio system, marking a significant differentiating factor. Sonos soundbar users, for example, will have the option to enjoy TV audio through the headphones. Nevertheless, questions arise regarding Sonos’ ability to match the sound quality and features of renowned high-end brands like Apple, Sony, and Sennheiser, especially concerning factors such as overall sound quality and active noise cancellation.

The Roam 2’s design looks largely unchanged.

The Roam 2: A Companion to Sonos’ Speaker Lineup

Alongside the Ace headphones, Sonos is rumored to be launching the Sonos Roam 2 in the coming months. The original Roam, introduced in 2021 as Sonos’ first truly portable speaker, faced criticism from consumers due to battery-related issues over extended use. Images of the Roam 2 reveal a design nearly identical to its predecessor, leaving consumers eager to explore any improvements or enhancements the upcoming model may offer.
