He’s from Marl, he’s a great – and great – director and has just released his debut novel. Sönke Wortmann will read from it on February 15th – with Mona Ameziane – in the Marl Theater.
Sönke Wortmann, born in Marl in 1959, actually wanted to become a professional footballer after graduating from high school. He played for Westfalia Herne and SpVgg Erkenschwick. That didn’t work out with the professional. But the son of a miner achieved fame after completing his studies with cult films such as “Kleine Haie”, “The Moving Man” or “The Miracle of Bern”. Now he is presenting his debut novel “The spoken word counts” in the Marl Theater. You can look forward to him and the gorgeous presenter and journalist Mona Ameziane in the Marl Theater on February 15 from 7.30 p.m.
The man of the word loves the woman who cannot speak
What is the novel about ?: Franz-Josef Klenke works as a speechwriter for the Foreign Minister. He does everything to make the man look good. This includes not telling the untruth, but not speaking some truth. But Klenke, a man of the word, loves Maria, who cannot speak. And that creates problems. When the delegation sets out for Morocco to negotiate a readmission agreement for illegal refugees, a diplomat awaits them who has his own views on migration – and an agenda that nobody suspects … It’s like Wortmann’s films: Funny and tragic, touching and clever, so the criticism.
