Sonja Bakker cannot count on any compassion from the press. After the enormous plagiarism riot, the cooking hat has made its comeback, but according to RTL Boulevard she is still stealing everything together.
It was perhaps the most painful summer in Sonja Bakker’s career: she was accused of stealing recipes, the accusations turned out to be true and her career seemed over. However, the recipe rover is back and is now sharing all kinds of recipes on its online channels.
cutting and pasting
RTL Boulevard took a close look at that and found that it is again not pure coffee. And that was the opening news of the show section yesterday. Presenter Eddy Zoëy spoke of her ‘presumably copied recipes again’.
The presenter: “Research by our own editors shows that after her recent plagiarism scandal, Sonja is again sharing many specific recipes online that again seem to be sloppy cutting and pasting from well-known cooking sites.”
‘Unbelieveable’
Sonja would now steal recipes from, among others, the Allerhande. “It is unbelievable this,” said Eddy.
TV expert Rob Goossens: “Yes, you can say that. She has, of course, been greatly warned because of the riot earlier this year. You would think that you don’t do these kinds of things anymore.”
“She seems to have taken a more careful approach, for example by no longer using photos of others, but I still see a lot of recipes that you can also find elsewhere. Then she changed the order, for example. Those kinds of things, but yes: they are recipes that are very similar.”
Sonja responds
What does Sonja say? “To get straight to the point; the recipes come from our own tube and are absolutely not copied or the like. Precisely because of the simplicity and the limited number of ingredients, there will undoubtedly be other recipes that are similar.”
She continues: “My approach is not to come up with separate, stand-alone recipes, but to offer people accessible recipes that are easy to prepare. It is inevitable and even desirable that similarities with existing recipes arise; this makes my recipes recognizable and accessible.”
safe side
Lawyer Clarice Stenger thinks Sonja adjusts just enough words and sentence constructions not to be charged. “I think Sonja is on the safe side. You can of course wonder whether this really is a cooking brain.”
Lex Uiting: “What do the parties say that it steals from and borrows from? You would say that you then file a case.”
Clarice: “I think they are sitting with their legal advisers to consider the extent to which they consider this copyright infringement.”
Rob: “Apparently Sonja doesn’t really have the talent to make her own recipes.”
