The educational project “Songs with Art 3.0” aimed at students of Primary, ESO and Baccalaureate, has reached the classrooms of the municipality of Gáldar in order to make the students aware of the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the Canary Islands, through music. This initiative has been possible thanks to the financing of the Council of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria that supported this project presented by the Department of Education of the City Council of Gáldar. A work that has been carried out in the classrooms by the singer-songwriter Heriberto Cruz, creator of this new project, which awakens creativity among students and at the same time strengthens our cultural identity.
The Councilor for the area of Education, Identity, Libraries and Medians of the Galician City Council, Carlos Ruiz, knowledgeable about previous educational experiences by Heriberto Cruz, such as Songs in oil, Verses in time and A-gáldar, bet from the beginning on this interesting project that has been implemented in the educational centers of the municipality that have been joining it “because it is a way that the students learn to express themselves, know the traditions as something alive and use heritage to explore and discover the gifts that each one has ”.
In recent days and with all the security measures recommended by the health authorities against covid19, the CEIP Antonio Padrón, in one of its Primary classrooms, hosted precisely the development of this project where Heriberto Cruz “between song and song” and with projections audiovisuals, shared with the students, for example, how it is the rich heritage of Gáldar, such as La Guancha, Risco Caído or La Cueva Pintada, interpreting songs by the poet Manuel Díaz García and, above all, awakening the enthusiasm and spontaneity of the students who joined in this novel experience in the classroom.
The teachers of the participating centers also receive material and links so that they can continue working on the content of these talks, which are able to awaken creativity and interest in art. In addition to the face-to-face model in the classrooms, the option of hosting this proposal through an online model was offered, making connections that allowed the materialization of this project.
“Songs with Art” brings to the classrooms women in Canarian poetry, Canarian modernism or Galician heritage, painting and traditions, awakening the spark for the knowledge of Canarian art and culture using music as an excellent didactic resource.
