The umbrella organizer European Broadcasting Union (EBU) does not consider it safe to organize the event there in view of the war in Ukraine. The EBU is now starting talks with the British broadcaster BBC, the number two this year.

On Thursday, the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC announced that they wanted to organize the Eurovision Song Contest in three different regions next year. “Yesterday we filled out a questionnaire for hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine with the European Broadcasting Union,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Ukraine’s culture minister. “Within a very short span of time, the government was able to provide thorough and comprehensive answers.” Tkachenko promised that the country will fulfill its obligations to the organization. “We have provided detailed answers to security questions and other organizational nuances and proposed different locations,” said the minister. “We understand that given the current circumstances, we face the challenge of organizing the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine. But we have risen to this challenge and I am sure we will surprise everyone.”

Despite the war with Russia, the Ukrainians have been serious about organizing the Song Contest in their own country since the victory of the group Kalush Orchestra in Turin last month. Several countries have recently offered to help Ukraine with the organization or to take over the event completely.
