[Sondage] Climate hazards – 59% of farmers with climate insurance triggered it in 2020

Almost 6 out of 10 breeders who say they pay multi-risk climate insurance have used it this year according to an online survey carried out on Web-agri. The drought has once again had a heavy impact on livestock farming.

In 2020, 71.4% of farmers reading Web-agri did not take out comprehensive climate insurance. This is what emerges from a survey carried out on Web-agri from December 1 to 8, 2020 with 804 respondents.

Of the 28.6% who said they had one, 59% had triggered it this year. A percentage increase compared to 2019. Indeed, if the proportion of breeders having taken out climate insurance was the same in 2019, they were only 41% to have triggered it.

It must be said that the drought has hit pastoralists again this year. And this is the third consecutive year that such levels of drought have been recorded. According to the latest Agreste figures, 77% of fodder regions faced a deficit in grass production during the campaign.

NB: The results of this survey are indicative (the sample has not been adjusted).
