Son of prosecutor Vasil Mihailov under investigation for threatening a prison guard (Obzor)

The case against the young man was brought to court, he will be responsible for 8 beatings, death threats and hooliganism

When I get out of here, you’ll see. Similar threats were made by the son of the prosecutor, Vasil Mihailov, to a director of the pre-trial detention center a few days before he was to be tried for 8 offences, mainly beatings of residents of the mining town.

The son of the former deputy. Pernik District Prosecutor Biser Mihailov invited the Justice Ministry employee on December 17. It was around 11:30. The young man was in his cell. So far it is unclear what exactly angered the prosecutor’s son. He was returned to custody after spending several weeks wearing an electronic bracelet at home for straying from the perimeter of his apartment.

Due to the suicide threat with the director, a new investigation was launched. Vasil Mihailov has not yet been charged. The news was given by the deputy. Sofia District Prosecutor Ivan Stefanov on Thursday.

Mihailov will go to court for 8 crimes, most of them battery, and two of them mean bodily harm. It is for them that Vasil risks the most serious punishments: from 2 to 10 years in prison. 45 witnesses were questioned. 12 volumes of materials were presented to the court. The events for which an indictment has been filed are in the period November 2021 – June 2022.

Reports also continue to arrive on other cases, said prosecutor Stefanov and assured that the state prosecutor’s office will check everything.

18-year-old Vasil Mihailov rose to fame in June. He was later arrested after beating former “Minor” (Pernik) footballer Rumen Andonov and breaking his jaw.

His arrest came after an action by the city’s Interior Ministry in response to Mayor Stanislav Vladimirov’s threat to lead protests against the police’s refusal to act on complaints against Mihailov. After the arrest of the young man, the Ministry of the Interior announced that 3 investigations were underway against him for different proceedings. On May 12, Mihailov beat a 24-year-old man from Pernik, and in the course of the investigation, information was collected about three more beatings with his participation: two in November and December last year and one in March this year , and the materials were reported to the Pernik District Prosecutor’s Office.

The case arrived in Sofia in June. At that time, his father was the deputy district attorney of Pernik. And to avoid suspicions of interference, the case was sent to the capital. Biser Mihailov himself asked to leave the post of head, and the prosecutorial collegium of the Supreme Court released him. He remained a regular prosecutor.

In late October, 18-year-old Mihailov was released under house arrest and with an electronic bracelet after nearly 5 months behind bars. Pernicani, however, reported that he was violating his probation. And a check by the Ministry of Justice confirmed that the man was not always at home. However, the Sofia District Court refused to take him back into custody after acknowledging that there was insufficient evidence. However, the Justice Ministry explained that there was a 1-day delay in placing Mihailov’s bracelet. It turned out he had been away from the address for about 40 minutes. The young man himself said that he went to a restaurant near his home just to get the keys, since they had been left there. On 10 November, however, the Sofia City Court released Mihailov into custody on the grounds that he could have asked for the keys to be handed over to him.

It is not yet clear whether he will be charged for threatening a director. The case on the 8 charges is expected to be scheduled in the Sofia District Court.
