South Korean striker Son Heung-min has been named Tottenham captain, the north London club announced Saturday, replacing Frenchman Hugo Lloris, who will leave the entity after eleven seasons in his goal.

It is the end of an era at Tottenham: after the departure of the legend Harry Kane, officially transferred this Saturday to Bayern Munich, the club has decided to withdraw the bracelet from Lloris, who had worn it since 2015, to hand it over to Son Heung-min .

The 31-year-old South Korean, who joined Tottenham in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, will have James Maddison and Argentine Cristian Romero as sub-captains.

With a contract until 2024, Lloris did not participate in Tottenham’s pre-season to “explore transfer opportunities,” the club said.

The 36-year-old goalkeeper and 2018 world champion with France is not in the plans of Spurs, who signed Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for this season.
