It has been exactly a week since 30-year-old Mariska died in her house, Sahrona thinks. “She had called me on Thursday evening, but I had not seen that. Fifteen minutes later she stopped answering, while she always does, so that must have been the moment that she died.”
Physical complaints
The fact that Sahrona did not immediately sound a great alarm was because Mariska had not been feeling well for some time. Not that Thursday either, so it was only logical that she didn’t make contact for a while. Mariska had many physical complaints, such as diabetes and two thrombosis legs.

Due to a blood clot that had come loose due to the thrombosis, Mariska probably went into cardiac arrest on Thursday and died afterwards. No, it had nothing to do with corona or the vaccines, the family emphasizes in advance.
Eaten dog chunks and candy
At the time of death, Mariska’s 4-year-old son was at home with the dog. “He experienced everything very consciously,” says Sahrona. “He thought she was asleep. That’s why he went to bed himself. The next few days he satisfied his hunger by eating dog food and sweets, he said. It is very pathetic.”
After being without contact with Mariska for a day, Sahrona began to consult other relatives on Saturday. “And then it went fast. Suddenly we found out that not only me, but no one had had contact with her anymore. We drove to her house and called the police there. They went in and then found her, together with her son.”

It is a traumatic experience for the family, the sister says, but especially for Mariska’s son. “Fortunately, he now gets a lot of help. In addition, Mariska had arranged that if something ever happened, I would take care of him. So I will do that, as she has always wanted.”
Fundraising for Funeral
How is Sahrona herself? She lives mainly on autopilot, she says. Mainly because she has a lot to arrange. “Mariska had no funeral insurance. Initially, this would not give her a normal goodbye, and not even in her own place. Fortunately, we raised a lot of money with a donation campaign, so that especially her son can now say goodbye to his mother normally. That’s so important for the little one.”
The counter of that donation will continue to run for a while. The money that will not be needed for the funeral will go to a memorial and to Mariska’s son. “For a private bedroom at my house, for a cargo bike so that I can transport him with my own child, for his future. We are very grateful that so many people want to contribute to this.”
