Something went wrong at Red Bull, Verstappen says it’s hard to say what

According to Max Verstappen, it is difficult to find out the origin of the problem that the Red Bull car has had since the races, but he warns his team not to panic.

Max Verstappen has not won in five races. Nothing like this has happened to him since 2020. At the home Dutch Grand Prix, he suffered a defeat for the first time since the field competed again in Zandvoort. In addition, Lando Norris beat him by a large margin. The difference between them at the finish line was 22 seconds, with Verstappen still leading for 17 laps at the start of the race thanks to a good start.

While qualifying promised an even better Red Bull for the race, Verstappen spoke at the post-race press conference about how his RB20 didn’t feel much different over the three days.

“The whole weekend was the same. Basically, the balance of my car was the same from the first free practice to the race. Its limits are the same. It is very difficult to solve at the moment. Yes, we seemed a bit too slow, but the tire wear was also very bad.”

“It’s a bit strange because in the last few years we’ve been good at it. So something went wrong with the car in that area, we need to find out what it is and fix it quickly.”

They asked what the main problem was. “There is no balance, front and back, just don’t add up” he answered.

Verstappen used to win any race regardless of his starting position. Now he suffered a big loss by being able to pass Lando Norris who was starting with pole at the start on a track that is difficult to pass on paper and the position on the track is certain.

According to his confession, he soon realized that he had no chance even at the top. “I ran my own race, kicking the tires. I did everything I could, but at one point the car stopped turning and responding. Lando got close enough to me at first, but not close enough. I couldn’t do anything in the next round. As soon as he passed me, I focused on my own race and tried to bring home second place. “

At the start of the year, Verstappen won races with similar dominance. They asked if their current problem came with the improvements, or if it had always been there, only now it came to the surface, when they started to push the limits more because of the opposition.

“He wasn’t in the first couple of races. The car is more difficult to drive and very difficult to find where this is coming from. This reflects our single-lap performance, but also the long term.”

According to Helmut Marko, their current loss is alarming. Verstappen confirmed that he has been saying for a long time that there is a problem, but now he is trying to calm the team down. “It was just a bad weekend overall. We need to get to the bottom of this. Even our last few races weren’t great. I think this was already a kind of warning. But we know there is no need to panic. We’re just trying to do better. We are working on it. F1, on the other hand, is very complicated. “

Regarding Barcelona’s longest winless streak in the past 3 years, the defending champions tried to put the situation in a wider context.

“It’s happening, isn’t it? I had many good years. Some never won a race in their entire career. You can also watch it here. We don’t have the best car right now.”

“We have some problems that we need to solve and we are working on them. We are very focused on that. There are still many races left, many different tracks. It just wasn’t our best weekend.”

The next race in Monza is already coming up next week. With better expectations? “I don’t know. We just need to fix our balance issues. This alone will help a lot with tire wear. There are a lot of new things in Monza. The asphalt, the wheel arches, even the design of the first and second turns .So we have to find out more, but we know we will have a lot to do.” Verstappen looked on.
