– The infection rates are high and we are in a situation with great infection pressure. It is unfortunately the case that there is something the population must take over, says infection control chief Egil Bovim in Bergen to VG.
The municipality will meet NIPH on Tuesday at 15.30 to talk about the infection situation and possible new measures.
– We have meetings throughout the afternoon with FHI, among other things. After that, we will discuss the way forward, says Bovim and adds:
– The situation is now such that infection control rules are more relevant than in a long time. It’s boring, but that’s the way it is.
The chief infection control officer recommends people from Bergen to wear a bandage.
– We see that the recommendation to use a mask when not keeping your distance is not complied with, says Bovim.
– We see low use of face masks in public transport and in places where you can not comply with less than one meter distance. In those situations, I recommend the use of face masks, he says and emphasizes that people from Bergen should follow the infection control rules in the city.
– We recommend that you comply with the general infection control rules.
25 of the new cases of infection in Bergen have an unknown route of infection, ten have not yet been clarified, while 62 are close contacts.
Everyone who has been to a party on Marmorøyen on Tuesday the 3rd or in Skjoldbukta on Friday the 6th of August is encouraged to get tested. There is an unknown number of infected from the parties, and many of the young people who participated can not account for their close contacts as there were many strangers gathered at both parties, says Egil Bovim.
Around 100 people are said to have attended each of the parties, according to what the infection tracers in Bergen are informed.
The R-number in Helse Bergen is also estimated to be 1.4, but at the moment no people living in Bergen municipality are hospitalized with covid-19 disease at the hospital, according to VG’s overview.
Tuesday’s figures are from samples taken on four different dates (one from 6 August, 19 from 7 August, 56 from 8 August and 27 from 9 August).
Erna: – The government is following closely
In another email Bergens Tidende Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) writes that the government is closely following the situation in the city.
– At the same time, the disease burden is much lower than during previous increases. This is as expected due to the high vaccine coverage. The government is closely following the situation in Bergen, Solberg writes to the newspaper.
Solberg encourages people from Bergen to keep in mind that there is still an ongoing pandemic.
– The government supports the city council’s measures. It is important that all people in Bergen remember that the pandemic is not over. We are closely following the development in Bergen, but have confidence that the municipality handles the infection situation in close cooperation with the health authorities, the Prime Minister writes to the newspaper.
The chief infection control officer emphasizes opposite Bergensavisen that the spores are working hard these days. Last year, the current infection situation would have led to closure and strict measures, the newspaper writes.
– Nevertheless, we must look at our entire initiative regime. We have to look at whether we are doing the right things. This is one of the main topics we will talk to FHI about today, says Bovim.
More and more people are getting infected. Fully vaccinated people are also infected. However, they do not get as sick as the unvaccinated can get.
– Therefore, we must look at whether what we do today is the right thing to do. A doctor will always do his utmost to keep everyone safe. But it is not certain that what we are doing now is optimal in the situation we are in. We must look more closely at the level of ambition with infection tracking, for example, says the infection control chief.
