Few yellow vests, and no procession, but France Palestine activists are working to raise awareness of the legality of boycotting Israeli products
A handful of yellow vests met again, this Saturday, February 27, Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux. About twenty in number, the demonstrators were limited to a rally on the spot, without parading on the quays. The local group of the France Palestine Solidarity association, however, backed up a distribution of leaflets reaffirming the legality of the call for a boycott of Israel “as long as the country does not respect international law”, particularly in the occupied territories.
President of the Girondin group, Ahmed Kasttet thus opposes a recent circular from the Minister of Justice Éric Dupont-Moretti on the “repression of discriminatory calls to boycott Israeli products” a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights ruling on the legality of these same calls: “We are witnessing a semantic shift, we are calling for a boycott of a government, a State which does not respect international law, not a nation.” “
A conflict, however, has passed into the background of the news, admits Ahmed Kasttet, who, with a “twenty die-hards” from Palestine 33, deals with a “feeling of resignation” and a lower political commitment.
