As the COVID-19 vaccination process accelerates, people are increasingly questioning the antibodies. There are more and more people who want to check the amount of them that have formed in the body after a vaccination or illness. And when you get the results, there are more questions than answers – is a certain number of antibodies enough, why does your neighbor have more of them, what to do if they don’t exist at all?
We talked to two doctors about this topic – VUL Santara Clinics family doctor Valery Morozov and National Cancer Institute (IMI) doctor oncologist dr. Marius Strioga. True, their position differed on one issue. Here, V. Morozov was skeptical about people’s willingness to test for antibodies and said that in most cases such tests do not make sense. At that time, dr. According to Mr Strioga, this is so far the only available, although not entirely accurate, antibody testing, so it’s totally worth doing.
Different laboratories have different answers
One of the reasons people want to do an antibody test is to find out if they have them at all. And then compare your numbers with loved ones, co-workers, or neighbors. Still, this is a wrong practice. Especially if the tests were performed in different laboratories.
“As you like to say in Lithuania – you can’t compare, but let’s compare. In fact, it is never possible to compare studies performed in different laboratories. Even if the units of measurement are the same, the methodology, reagents, and the like may differ. As a result, it is never possible to compare different laboratory tests, ”V. Morozov explained.
