In the wake of the lockdown starting this Wednesday, some high-profile financial institutions in the region are temporarily shutting down their services. According to information from Tuesday, the Sparkasse Mainfranken will no longer employ any employees in 27 branch offices in the Würzburg area or in the Kitzingen and Main-Spessart districts until further notice.
Sparkasse Mainfranken relies on self-service branches
The supply of cash and other services are guaranteed. In the 39 larger advice centers and branches, customers are still available to contact during normal opening times. The Sparkasse shows an overview of the current status in the branches on your website.
According to the information, the 27 previously staffed branch offices will be temporarily converted into self-service branches, in which only ATMs and similar devices will then be available. The mailboxes are emptied regularly, the Sparkasse said.
The Sparkasse Mainfranken is one of the largest of its kind in Bavaria. There, as well as in all other financial institutions in the region, the online offers as well as telephone advice or appointments are not affected by the restrictions.
How the other savings banks in the region react
According to a spokesman, the 42 branch offices of the Sparkasse Schweinfurt-Haßberge will remain open and manned as usual this week. From next week, due to the lockdown, it will only be open in the morning. A crisis team discussed details on Tuesday.
The Sparkasse Bad Kissingen did not provide any information on Tuesday about how the lockdown was being handled there. There was nothing to be read of any changes on their website.
The Sparkasse Bad Neustadt tries to keep its 13 branches open until the end of the lockdown with staff and the usual opening times. “We drive on sight,” said CEO Georg Straub on Tuesday, leaving possible changes open.

Confusing situation at VR banks
The situation at the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken in Lower Franconia is confusing. All 22 financial institutions are independent and “therefore decide for themselves” how to deal with the lockdown, said spokesman Roland Streng of the Bavarian Cooperative Association on request.
According to CEO Roland Wiederer, his VR-Bank in Würzburg reacts in a similar way to Sparkasse Mainfranken: In about a fifth of the 31 branch offices, the advisory staff will be withdrawn from this Wednesday and probably until the planned end of the lockdown in January.
Different models at other financial institutions
Commerzbank in Würzburg, which is responsible for parts of northern Bavaria, has also reacted. On the Internet, she announced that the branch in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Middle Franconia will be temporarily closed to protect customers and employees. The larger branches in Würzburg, Schweinfurt, Bad Kissingen and Bamberg, among others, are not affected.
Nothing will change at Sparda-Bank Nürnberg with its staffed branches in Würzburg and Schweinfurt: the opening times of these branches have remained unchanged, the cooperative bank announced.
Hypovereinsbank (HVB), with around a dozen branches in Mainfranken, has an alternating model during the lockdown: smaller branch offices are open for two weeks, then closed for one week. However, it was postponed from branch to branch, so that customers in their neighborhood would always find an open HVB branch, according to a spokesman. The main branches in Würzburg, Schweinfurt and Aschaffenburg remained open.
