By the end of this year, the premiere of a full-length anime film based on the cult fantasy universe “The Lord of the Rings” will take place. In the film “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim”, viewers will find events that unfolded 200 years before the plot of the famous trilogy, with completely different heroes and enemies. This will not make the intensity of passions any less, and some scenes in the anime will be able to fully pay tribute to the films of Peter Jackson and the world of J. R. R. Tolkien.
At least, this is what the director of the film, Kenji Kamiyama, says, who recently shared with journalists from the publication Oricon details about the complex production process. The director admitted that The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim was a real challenge for him, which he accepted as a fan of this unique universe. Kamiyama became fascinated by the world of The Lord of the Rings as a child, and Peter Jackson’s trilogy only strengthened his love for this work as an adult. He always dreamed of touching this world and therefore, without hesitation, agreed to head an anime project based on it.
As Kamiyama noted, for the anime plot he had to significantly expand the original story about King Helm, which fits into only 11 book pages. There will be new plot episodes and entire characters in the film, but they tried to carefully fit them into the canon in order to make the story interesting and authentic. In terms of connections to the original trilogy, fans can look forward to some references.
Of course, I thought about how to connect this film to the world of two centuries ago, but I think I was able to include techniques that will make Lord of the Rings fans smile.
— the director shared.
Premiere “The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim” will take place on December 13th.
