On Thursday, the authorities in El Dorado County, California, managed to arrest the killer of a girl who committed his crime in 1979.
The investigation team said Harold Carpenter, 63, killed Patricia Carnahan in 1979.
The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office said evidence of a 1994 rape led to the arrest of Carnahan’s killer.
According to NBC news, the killer was known after his DNA was found in the 1994 rape, and when matching it with the one found on Carnahan’s body, it turned out to belong to the same person, Carpenter.
The file of Carnahan’s murder was reopened, whose body was found in the Lake Tahoe camp on September 28, 1979, after a campaign was launched in the United States to review and research cases registered against an unknown person.
Carpenter is currently facing, with the emergence of new evidence, the charge of premeditated murder, after he escaped from the rape charge in 1994, when the victim did not press any formal charges against him at the time.
