Soluna Technologies and AM Wind to build 900 MW wind power plant for self-consumption

(Agence Ecofin) – In Morocco, Soluna Technologies and AM Wind will build a 900 MW wind power plant in Dakhla to supply data centers dedicated to the supply of computing capacities to global blockchain networks. The project will enter its construction phase in mid-2021.

In Morocco, Soluna Technologies and AM WIND plan to build a 900 MW wind power plant in Dakhla. The infrastructure will power the servers to provide computational capabilities to global blockchain networks. The program called “Harmattan” will see the construction of the plant be done in six years.

“Over the past three years, Soluna has carried out studies and research into the technical feasibility of the wind power plant. These different steps required a global investment of $ 10 million. After the completion of the environmental studies, we will begin financing and pre-construction activities in mid-2021 ”, said John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna Technologies.

The project also obtained the approval of the Ministry of Energy for the installation of the plant for self-consumption. The work will cost approximately $ 2.5 billion.

The adoption of blockchain in global finance is indeed growing and major institutions such as JP Morgan Chase, PayPal, Goldman Sachs, Square, CME and Intercontinental Exchange have already adopted it.

The data center project is carried by the investor Brookstones Partners and will be implemented by Soluna.
