“During her career, the owner of the vocal voice has toured not only the whole of Latvia, but also the Soviet Union and European countries, performing a wide repertoire – from lesser-known songs by Latvian composers to vocal symphonic works,” the obituary said.
Erika Tipaine was born on September 20, 1923. Her father, Nikolai Tipainis, was a teacher of mathematics, physics and singing, and had learned to play various musical instruments and supported his daughter’s musical efforts. She studied at the vocal department of the Latvian Conservatory, at the same time working as a librarian in the State Library of the Latvian SSR. After graduating from the conservatory, Ērika Tipaine sang at the Latvian SSR State Opera and Ballet Theater, but then turned to perform as a soloist at the Latvian SSR State Philharmonic. She was much invited to take part in concerts both in Latvia and in the Soviet Union and European countries. Actively performing during the 20th century. From the 1950s to the 1970s, she visited various places, from the Atlantic Ocean to the steppes of Kazakhstan and Vorkuta, surrounded by northern ice.
According to the relatives of the deceased, Erika Tipaine stood out with a wide range and ability to perform various repertoires – both the songs of Alfreds Kalnins and Olgerts Gravitis, as well as impressive vocal symphonic works, such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s “Messiah” other compositions by Latvian and foreign composers. Although she was a classical singer, she has also performed with the Riga Stage Orchestra, as well as sung songs for the film “How the Swans Go White Clouds”. She most often performed with pianists Herman Braun and Vilma Cīrulis.
After the end of her vocal career, Ēika Tipaine passed on her knowledge and skills while working as a vocal teacher at the Jāzeps Mediņš Music High School.
While still studying at the conservatory, Erika Tipaine married the painter Mikhail Kornecki, and their children had two children – Irena and Andrejs. Until the end of her life, the singer was passionate about music and painting, spent time with her grandchildren and grandchildren and maintained her artistic spirit.
Farewell to the singer will take place on Wednesday, March 30, at 14.00 in Jaunciems cemetery chapel.
