Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka Ready to Face Sanctions from PDI-P

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka admitted that he was ready to be sanctioned by the PDI-P after being supported as a candidate for vice presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto from the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM).

It is known that Gibran is a PDI-P cadre. Currently, there is no certainty regarding Gibran’s status as a cadre of the party bearing the white-snouted bull symbol.

“Ready, yes. Thank you,” said Gibran when met at the Proclamation Monument, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Saturday (21/10/2023).

Gibran stated that he had met with the Chair of the PDI-P DPP, Puan Maharani, to discuss this issue.

However, Gibran did not explain in detail about his meeting with Puan.

“I already answered earlier, I have met Mbak Puan, yes,” said Gibran.

It is known that the Golkar Party officially supports Gibran to be Prabowo Subianto’s running mate.

This was announced at the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Golkar Party today.

Responding to this support, Gibran thanked and appreciated the results of the Golkar Party’s National Rapimnas. Gibran said he would coordinate with Prabowo.

Before being officially supported as Prabowo’s running mate, Gibran had met Puan Maharani.

In a meeting with Gibran on Friday (20/10/2023) evening, Puan revealed that President Joko Widodo’s eldest son expressed the possibility of contesting the 2024 presidential election.

“We met with Mas Gibran last night, where Mas Gibran has said that there is a possibility that he will take part in the presidential election contestation, but what and how, we will wait next,” said Puan, quoted from Antara, Saturday.

Puan also knows about Golkar’s support for Gibran.

However, PDI-P will not take any steps yet because Golkar’s support for Gibran is still a recommendation.

“As far as I know, Mas Gibran has just received a recommendation from the Golkar Party to run as vice presidential candidate. However, regarding what to do next, there has been no decision yet,” said Puan.

Meanwhile, Gibran, who is still 36 years old, may run for the 2024 presidential election after the Constitutional Court decided on a judicial review regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

The court allows a person who is not yet 40 years old to nominate himself as president or vice president as long as he has experience as the head of a district or other department elected through general elections.
