Solidarity Contract and Negotiations Update: Workers Approve Agreement and Await Discussion with Finnish Multinational

The solidarity contract signed by the unions in the addendum signed with the company will take effect in the next few hours: today the workers’ assembly was held which approved what was done by the unions themselves, thus triggering the operation of the agreement. The solidarity concerns 299 workers who will receive an average of 80 percent of their salary. A curtailment that will continue until the end of the year, a deadline by which any layoffs are also frozen. And, in the meantime, the procedure for negotiations between the Finnish multinational on the one hand and Mitsubishi and Ansaldo Energia on the other will be launched. The first meeting to discuss the expressions of interest must take place by 30 September next. Meanwhile, today an “information assembly” was held, as it was defined, in which the workers were informed in detail about the solidarity contracts and the points of the addendum. “It was a very attended assembly – explained the territorial secretary of Uilm-Uil Antonio Rodà – the workers understood and received the positive results of the work done by the trade union delegation”. The atmosphere in the factory is one of “expectation, of hope that Mitsubishi and Ansaldo will continue”, continued Rodà who ultimately spoke of a “positive meeting, with interventions by workers in line with what has been done by the unions” . Once the assembly was over, the organization phases for the application of solidarity began. The two realities that have expressed interest will have to present an industrial plan, the ‘due diligence’, then the real negotiations will start; finally, the union will have to, in the positive case, sign an agreement. A complex and long process that will be marked by calling tables with related updates. The addendum provides for the clause that Wartsila transparently communicates the progress of the negotiations to the Government and the Region. On the other hand, Ansaldo is a public entity, therefore subject to particular controls.
