How exactly does the new 3D printing construction technology work?
“You put material where you need it and leave it out where you don’t need it. Shapes and designs that were previously impossible or simply too expensive are now possible. Complicated formwork is a thing of the past, free forms of all kinds are possible and components can be produced quickly and with a great deal of weight for the first time,” explains DI Eduard Artner, head of the 3D concrete printing business area at Baumit. The sustainability of the printed components is another very important direction. Current projects already show that weight savings of 30% to 50% can be achieved and the associated CO2 savings are also half. Additional benefits in the construction process such as lower weight when lifting, transport, reduction of work steps, etc. are not even included. The individual elements are also recyclable.
