Libreville, May 3, 2023 (AGP) – The formal opening hearing of the Constitutional Court was held this Wednesday, May 3, in the presence of the Head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba. Marking the resumption of the annual activities of the 9 constitutional judges, it served as the opening of the 1st meeting of African women judges.
The return to school, which took place in a political context, marked by the organization in a few months of general elections, has, among other things, enabled the President of the Constitutional Court, Marie Madeleine Mborantsuo, to take stock of certain aspects of the jurisdictional activity of the institution, on behalf of the previous year.
«In this context, the Constitutional Court has rendered, throughout the past year, hundreds of decisions and issued several opinions, on requests both from the competent authorities and from natural and legal persons.she said.
Reinforced by the organization, at the initiative of the Head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba, of the political consultation held in Libreville last February, in which political actors from both sides took part, Marie Madeleine Mborantsuo did not fail to thank the Gabonese Head of State, for this commitment which notably made it possible to harmonize the duration of the electoral mandates of senators and local elected officials at 5 years.
Similarly, in the presence of the great bodies of the State, and the members of the diplomatic corps, the President of the Constitutional Court returned to the information campaign organized for the populations, on the rules which govern the electoral process. . Just as she announced the start, in the coming weeks, of construction work on the Omar Bongo Ondimba memorial, an expression of the nation’s recognition of these illustrious sons.
As part of the extension of its return, the High Constitutional Court also organized the 1st meeting of African women judges.
Opened by Ali Bongo Ondimba, the appointment works under the theme “The presence of African women in the judiciary: assessment and prospects», aim to set up a suitable space for the exchange of experiences and reflection for African women judges.
