Corporals Shirley and Esther encountered a man along the way who appeared to be unwell. They spoke to the man, but got no response. “They examined him and Shirley immediately started CPR, while Esther got help. Fortunately British doctors offered immediate support.”

The rescuers and the victim are shielded from the sun with a poncholiner, a kind of blanket. The man regained consciousness after a minute and a half of CPR and was taken away by ambulance.
Commander of Camp Heumensoord, Lieutenant Colonel John Haasnoot, thanked the soldiers. Both soldiers were handed a shield for their alert actions.

Earlier today it was announced that a striking number of Four Days Marches runners suffered from heat complaints after arriving in Nijmegen. Several people fainted. Due to the crowds at the treatment tent, the Red Cross received assistance from Defense nurses.
This morning most hikers couldn’t wait to get started, especially after yesterday’s first day of hiking was canceled due to the heat. We were present at the start and made this report:
