Solberg regrets that the elders had to die alone:

It is today two years since Norway shut down due to the corona pandemic.

Erna Solberg was prime minister and thus supreme leader who was to loose five million inhabitants through the greatest crisis of the post-war period.

– Is there anything you regret?

– Very many in nursing homes, who may have been in the final phase of life, were not allowed to have any particular family visits. Maybe they lived a few months longer, but it is not certain the life content in the months that defended it, Solberg says to TV 2 on Saturday.

– It hurts a little in the stomach. People who were in the final phase of life should have had the opportunity to have family around them, says Solberg.

Everyday life turned upside down

A few weeks after the first case of infection was detected in Tromsø in February 2020, people’s everyday lives were turned upside down. Quarantine, cabin bans, closed borders, zoom school and a ban on visiting nursing homes quickly became the new norm.

Solberg believes that those who are children and young people today experience a greater degree of insecurity than those who were children and young people a few years ago. She has one piece of advice for those who are wondering if it makes sense to continue schooling.

– Education is the most important thing you do anyway. This is what gives us the opportunity to cope through crises. Society needs education and competence, she says.

– Crossing fingers

Barely two years later, on 12 February, the government removed almost all corona measures, and for many, the pandemic was in practice “over”. But neither the WHO nor the FHI characterize the pandemic as above.

– We do not know if we are done with the pandemic yet. We cross our fingers and hope it’s over, she says.

Solberg points out that we have a lot to learn after these two years, and that Norway has become and must become even more robust in terms of preparedness. But she believes we must learn to live with more insecurity.

– We have learned that we must have more things in stock. Both privately and publicly. We can not rely on the fact that we can buy anything anywhere, she says.
