According to Solaris, the total of 42 Urbino 12 Electric and Urbino 18 Electric from the current order are to be delivered in 2024 and 2025. The Urbino 12 Electric that ATMS Catania has configured will have a 350 kWh battery, while the articulated electric buses have 400 kWh installed. Both models are charged on the go using a pantograph or via cable at the depot.
As soon as the vehicles are delivered, they will join some of the manufacturer’s e-buses that are already in use. The seven Urbino 12 electrics ordered by AMTS Catania in 2022 were put into operation at the beginning of this year. A further eleven units will be delivered by the end of 2023, before the 42 new electric buses that have now been ordered will follow in 2024 and 2025. There will then be a total of 60 electric Solaris buses in the ATMS Catania fleet.
The current order – like previous orders – is being processed via a framework agreement between Solaris and the central purchasing point Consip SpA Roma. “We are very proud of the trust placed in our company by the airline AMTS Catania, which has ordered another batch of zero-emission buses from us,” says Olivier Michard, member of the Solaris management team for sales and marketing. We are pleased to be able to support the environmentally friendly transformation of transport in Catania and to be able to offer further innovative solutions to the residents of this beautiful Sicilian port.”
