President of Samsung Electronics Indonesia Yoonsoo Kim said that innovative, power efficient and environmentally conscious products and packaging are important steps. “We are also trying to create a better future,” he explained.

Samsung TV Going Green aims to ensure the long term sustainable production and use of TVs by reducing the carbon footprint during the production process.

Samsung reduces waste by creating products that are more durable and increasing the amount of recycled material in all TV products. Likewise to reduce e-waste. The Korean manufacturer creates durable products through continuous software updates and after-sales service improvements. Following are the details of Samsung TV’s going green program:

Solar Remote Control

Most TV remote controls run on batteries. However, batteries are classified as difficult to decompose and have the potential to become toxic waste. Well, Samsung designed a light-powered remote control, SolarCell, which can charge from sunlight, indoor lighting, or charge via USB.

In addition to a single-use battery-free resource, the SolarCell remote control also contains 24 percent (approx. 31 grams) of recycled plastic material from used water bottles.
With the composition and energy source that is environmentally friendly, this remote control is claimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14,000 tons and eliminate the use of 99 million AAA batteries during the seven years of the TV’s life.

Eco-packaging, cardboard can be used again
In the midst of the trend of larger-screen TVs, the packaging size has also increased and the appearance is busier, so that branding efforts and attract the attention of buyers.
Unfortunately, the bigger the packaging, the bigger the carbon footprint they leave behind. This time, Samsung chose to go against the tide.

Starting in 2021, Samsung is expanding minimalist eco-packaging to even more new TV product lines to significantly reduce waste. The use of eco-packaging can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 10,000 tons each year.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions has become even more crucial in the wake of recent extreme weather and natural disasters, triggered by rising temperatures on Earth and climate change.

Eco-packaging also provides added value for materials that were previously considered used goods or even waste. This minimalist Samsung TV packaging can be upcycle, comes with a dot design that will help buyers cut and make creative projects with the family, such as children’s toys or even furniture and home decorations.

In a period of social restrictions where almost all activities are carried out at home, eco-packaging can be a means of bonding relationships for all family members and practicing creativity together.
