BINGOL – Two children who witnessed the solar eclipse in Bingöl suffered loss of sight. It has been claimed that children whose families went to a private hospital in Bingöl looked directly at the sun with their naked eyes.
The partial solar eclipse, a natural event that occurs when the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, has been observed from many cities in Turkey.
Despite expert warnings, the moments of the eclipse were observed from several provinces of Turkey using tools such as solder mask, negative film or black glass.
Two 10-year-old children in Bingöl lost their sight because they were looking directly at the sun with their naked eyes. Ophthalmologist, who examines children, op. Dr Mahmut Sinan Abit said both children had burns in the nerve layer of the eyes from the sun. Sharing information that children watch the sun despite their teachers ‘warnings, Abit said: “According to information provided by their families, both primary school students looked at the sun for a short time despite their teachers’ warnings. , and the next day they noticed they had vision loss in their eyes. “
Abit said the children’s right eye was damaged and they didn’t know if permanent damage would occur.
Ophthalmology specialist M. Sinan Abit warned that one should never look directly at the sun, not just during eclipses. Abit said: “Our children looked directly at the sun, without using protective glasses. For now, it is not possible to know how the damage to children’s eyes will progress, whether or not permanent vision loss will occur. We will follow our children. It should be noted that looking directly at the sun can cause quite severe damage to the optic nerve. Families and schools should be aware of this problem and give warnings. Adults or children should never look directly at the sun.
‘IT IS NOT ONLY A SOLE eclipse, but NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN’
Abit pointed out that even a very short glance at the sun can cause serious eye damage. “We shouldn’t be looking at the sun. These kids also say they look at it for 5-10 seconds. The sun can cause burns in an instant. A short time.”
‘NO TREATMENT’
Speaking of the proposed treatment method, Abit said: “Unfortunately there is no cure. Think of it like this, imagine burning your hand on a stove or with a match, just like a burn occurs there, the sun has the same effect on the optic nerve. Then create a burn there. Then we just look at how the tissue can heal on its own, otherwise unfortunately there is no cure. “
Abit, who repeated his warning never to look at the sun’s rays without protective glasses, finally said: “One of the children has a loss of vision of about 90%, while the other child has a loss of vision of about 10%. Even if it is looked at in a very short time, damage can occur. Even with sunglasses, you should not look directly at the sun, it is very dangerous. Temporary or permanent blindness can occur. Darkened glass, film, film pulmonary, they are of no use, except for special glasses, you should not look directly at the sun in any way.
