The 2024-25 season of the UEFA Champions League It will be marked by important changes in the competition and draw format that will determine the members of each group.
Previously, there were four teams divided into eight groups that played a total of six matches each in the first phase with home and away matches, but from this year onwards the groups will be made up of eight clubs that will play their matches in a single round.
The number of participants will also increase from 32 to 36 clubs and to avoid a long and tedious draw, the UEFA has revealed what the new format for choosing the destination of each team will be like.

UEFA will define the Champions League groups with software
Starting this season, the UEFA will assign to an automated software the draw of the Group stage from to Champions League with the intention of making it more efficient and less tedious.
This programmer will create the groups of eight members each with the four pots and will also define which matches will be played at home and which as visitors.
The software ensures randomness in the number of teams from the same country in each group and eliminates deadlocks between federations, since there are countries that cannot compete against each other for political reasons.
This same format will also apply for the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League.
The software is developed by AE Live and was appointed in September 2023 as a partner of the UEFA. Since then it has developed and tested internal and external mechanisms.
As for the dates and times of the matches, these will be defined manually after the draw to avoid any overlap with the commitments of the three competitions and will be revealed next Saturday, August 31.
