Software-update: LibreOffice 7.5.0 – Computer – Downloads

Besides the improvements mentioned in the text regarding dark mode and integrated fonts, this version contains a lot of other improvements for macOS users. This is largely due to Patrick Luby, one of the founders of NeoOffice which has now become active within LibreOffice itself.

So is the installation time improved a lot because a different compression algorithm is now used. Where you first had to wait a few minutes for the .app to be copied to your Application folder, it is now there in a few seconds.

Finally, after more than ten years, the press-and-holdfunctionality that has been standard since OS X 10.7 Lion (and also known from i(Pad)OS) has been added, so that you can now insert special characters in the standard Mac way.

We are also working hard to fix all kinds of Skia-related bugs, which makes the UI feel a lot snappier. Thanks to Dark Mode, LO suddenly looks a lot less outdated (and not just on the Mac).

The bug that existed in earlier branches where LibreOffice froze when you had an external screen connected to your Mac has now also been fixed.

All in all, an update that is more than worth installing. I once switched to OOo 1.1 as a Windows user and have since written all kinds of theses, articles and a dissertation. After years of not too special updates, this is finally one that I was looking forward to again.

Edit: By the way, the release version is 7.5.0.3. I had been running RC2 (7.5.0.2) for quite some time and it was very stable. It is a pity that it is not clearly stated whether there is a difference between the latest release candidate and the final release.
