I’ve been using this for a very long time (used to be Emby until they boarded up the lake)
I also want EVERYTHING under my own management and EVERYTHING still has to work as long as I have electricity (also without internet)
I have an Openmediaportal running (purely as a NAS for data storage) and my Jellyfin server on it (bit unorthodox directly on the linux)
My kids watch their series on their PC via KODI , they each have their account so they each have their own “current series” and so on.
I look in the living room through a converted android box on which I have installed CoreElec, I have the Kodi Jellyfin app on it,
I use it purely to watch movies and series and that all goes perfectly the way I want it, on the fly decoding of 4K content (or full HD content with x265 coding) to my Full HD Kodi box/TV in the living room no problem.
There is also an extra account that has access (with password) to the “special” videos of my wife and I, and so far they have not accidentally come on the children’s PC, so that all works well too
So I use it very basic (it can do a lot more) only to watch movies and series, but never problems with that.
