At the Baltic AI Hackathon, the first artificial intelligence hackathon in the Baltics, the students’ idea of a tool called “ClaimCap” to check the authenticity of videos available on social media at the time won users look at them, winning their laurels. . Such a system would make it possible to fight against the urgent problem of fake news and information research in the online environment, reports the website labsoflatvia.lv.
“Baltic AI Hackathon” students from different branches and levels worked on next-generation artificial intelligence solutions, which were based on the educational standards defined by Riga Stradins University, University of Tartu, Latvian State Radio and Television Center, Group- Road Transport Directorate, Consumer Rights Protection Center and Central Financial Agreements Group, challenges to social inclusion, sustainability and public services.
The winners of the hackathon were determined in the competition of 34 teams and 150 Baltic students:
– the first place was won by the team “Ppkdr” from the University of Latvia, which won the opportunity to visit the artificial intelligence laboratory “Meta Fair” in Paris, France;
– the second place was won by the RTU team “Stopp” with a solution for identifying dangerous supplies, making public procurement processes more transparent;
– the third place was won by the Estonian student team “BinFinder” with an application that would make the waste recycling process simpler and more understandable with the help of artificial intelligence, telling the most suitable recycling method according to recommendations and local requirements.
In order to give the participants the opportunity to develop and test the concepts of the developed solutions in real time, the company “IBM” provided access to a high-performance infrastructure at the event with the capability of the large language module “Meta ” used. Llama3″ and the artificial intelligence platform “Watsonx” of IBM.
“The use of artificial intelligence is having a march of victory, moreover, we can see a situation where the offer is greater than the ability to implement artificial intelligence solutions, as both resources and appropriate capacity are required . Within 48 hours, students have created solutions that would work in both public administration and the private sector, and would contribute to society as a whole. This shows that everyone needs the skills to use artificial intelligence. It is a special pleasure for him to cooperate closely with the Baltic technical universities in the implementation of this event, as well as the interest of large companies and policy makers in promoting the development of the region in the field of artificial intelligence, ” assesses Riga Technical University (RTU) vice head of innovation Liene Briede.
The Hackathon was organized by RTU Science and Innovation Center in cooperation with the companies “Meta”, “IBM”, Tallinn University of Technology, University of Tartu and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
