Software engineer Jared Bridegan, 33, held a senior position at Microsoft.
He was previously married to Shanna Gardner-Fernandez with whom he had two children and then ended up in a bitter custody dispute with his ex-wife after their 2015 divorce.
After the divorce, he remarried Kirsten Bridegan with whom he had two children.
Last February 16, Bridegan was on her way home after dropping off her two oldest children at the Gardner-Fernandez home in Jacksonville, Florida. Then he drove home with his two-year-old daughter in the car.
Bridegan stopped the car when he noticed that someone had placed a tire in the middle of the road.
When he got out of the car to move the tire, Bridegan was shot dead with several shots at close range in front of the daughter who saw everything from the back seat.
– She heard the sound of the shots that killed her father, she was alone and wondered what had happened to him, says Kirsten Bridegan.
Calls for death penalty for ex-wife
Ex-wife Shanna Gardner-Fernandez, who remarried Mario Fernandez Saldana, has long been one of the main suspects in the murder.
Saldana was arrested in March this year on suspicion of having planned the shooting together with ex-prisoner Henry Tenon, who admitted his involvement in the murder. Saldana has been charged with murder but denies the charges.
Now Shanna Gardner-Fernandez, who was arrested at her home in Washington on Thursday, has also been charged with the murder of ex-husband Jared Bridegan.
– The indictment against Shanna Gardner states that she had a key role in the cold and premeditated murder of Jared Bridegan, says prosecutor Melissa Nelson during the press conference.
The prosecutor is seeking the death penalty.
